Did you know that more than 60% of adults in the United States use anti-aging products each day?

The anti-aging industry makes a lot of money because people think that serums and lotions are the keys to looking younger.

If you want to look younger, however, products aren’t necessarily the answer. Lifestyle changes are much more effective.

    1. Drink Plenty of Water

One of the best aging prevention tips to follow is to drink plenty of water.

Drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day can reduce wrinkles, dry spots, and acne. If you want to have moisturized and healthy-looking skin, water is essential. Water will help replenish your skin tissue and increase elasticity.

As Dr. Howard Murad, a renowned dermatologist, states, “Staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining skin’s elasticity and suppleness, which can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.”

As you age, elasticity is important because it will help ensure that your skin doesn’t sag or look sunken in. Since the water also helps replace skin tissue, you won’t have to worry about wrinkles or fine lines as much either!

    2. Use SPF

Instead of investing all of your money into anti-aging products, it is better to get a good SPF.

Wearing SPF each day can make a big difference when it comes to looking and feeling younger. Whether you are heading to the beach or just running errands, SPF will protect your skin against harmful UV rays. Some people recommend getting SPF lotion that is comfortable for their entire body to prevent sunspots.

Dr. Doris Day, a clinical associate professor of dermatology, emphasizes, “Daily use of sunscreen is the most effective way to prevent premature aging and skin cancer.”

By wearing sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher, you will help improve your chances of having healthy skin. Depending on the type of makeup that you wear, you might be able to find products that incorporate SPF within the ingredients.

    3. Avoid Smoking

If you want to learn how to stop aging, the best thing you can do is quit smoking.

Smoking cigarettes can speed up the aging process and make you appear much older than you are. The ingredients in cigarettes aren’t healthy and pull moisture away from skin cells. This can lead to having a dull or sallow complexion that anti-aging products can’t improve.

Dr. Debra Jaliman, a board-certified dermatologist, notes, “Smoking accelerates the aging process by breaking down collagen and reducing skin elasticity, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin.”

Another reason to avoid smoking is that each time you purse your lips around the cigarettes, fine lines and wrinkles appear. When your body gets in the habit of smoking, it will be more difficult for skin cells to replenish and the lines won’t go away. The more that you smoke, and the longer you smoke, the more wrinkles will appear because the motion is so frequent.

    4. Limit Drinking

Those who want to prevent aging for as long as possible should limit their drinking.

Although it shouldn’t be harmful to have a drink or two on the weekend, excessive drinking can have negative effects. Drinking alcohol reduces hydration throughout your entire body, including your skin. Alcohol can cause permanent damage to your skin when you consume too much.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology found that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to increased skin aging, including wrinkles and loss of elasticity.

Many people who quit drinking report that wrinkles and fine lines fade because skin cells can get replenished. The sugars and carbs found within alcoholic beverages can also make your skin look sunken in and dull.

    5. Eat a Balanced Diet

Many people pay for slim face surgery to help make them look younger and healthier.

If you want to take a more natural route to decrease aging, however, you should focus on your diet. Eating a balanced diet is critical to anti-aging because unhealthy foods can make your skin appear older.

Try eating a diet based on fruits and vegetables. These types of produce offer a variety of nutrients and vitamins that will improve your skin and ability to recover. Berries offer an abundance of antioxidants that make skin look younger and brighter. Leafy greens and carrots are also beneficial for antiaging.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist and nutritionist, explains, “A diet rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and essential nutrients can significantly improve skin health and slow down the aging process.”

When you eat a diet that is high in fat and sugar, your body will increase aging. This is because it isn’t getting the essential nutrients that support skin cell regrowth and rejuvenation.

    6. Create a Cleaning Routine

If you don’t have one already, it is time to create a cleaning routine for yourself.

Put cleaning the house aside and take time each day to focus on cleaning your face. Cleaning your face can make you look younger for several reasons. A gentle wash can get rid of makeup and dirt that makes your skin look dull.

Another way that a cleaning routine can help is if you exfoliate. Using a soft exfoliation cleanser or rag can stimulate skin cells. This will help get dead skin cells off of your body and expose the newer and younger-looking skin.

A study conducted by the American Academy of Dermatology found that regular exfoliation can improve skin texture and promote a more youthful appearance by removing dead skin cells and stimulating cell turnover.

    7. Focus on Fitness

Many people don’t realize it, but working out can improve your skin and help prevent aging.

Each time you work out, you are improving your blood circulation and immune system. When both of these bodily functions are working as they should, nutrients can be evenly distributed throughout the body. To have healthy and nourished-looking skin, you must have good blood flow.

If you are heading to the gym or going out for a run, just be sure that you wash your face afterward. Sweating can irritate skin and make it look red if you don’t clean up.
